Something about Staffordshire

Staffordshire takes its name from the town of Stafford. Staffordshire became the centre of the Kingdom of Mercia. By the late 10th century the traditional boundary of Staffordshire was being established. After the Industrial Revolution, areas close to Birmingham came under its influence, ultimately leading to the creation of the county of West Middlands in 1974. In 1997 Stoke-on-Trent became a unitary authority, and the remainder of Staffordshire is now administrated by Staffordshire County Council and eight district councils.

Famous for

The Alton Towers, theme park, with over 2.5 million visitors every year. The Village of Flash is England's highest village, 463 m above sea level. It contains 1,500 7th-century items of gold and silver, including helmets, sword hilts and crests, provides dramatic evidence as to how rich and powerful the Mercian Kingdom was.
